Wow. Scary... I am not sure I want to be in that society. It also might be that processing power as we know it today will be outdated by the times you are describing will arrive. I've heard ( from you I guess) biocomputing is a more likely way to go then silicon. Therefore, all we know about databases, data mining, etc would be different. I'd like to work on reverse key those for your mindfiles. LOL. Hacking the human uni(multi-)verse - what could be more arrogant;)

I have a feeling you are being over-sentimental about this. mindfiles are either going to run in very controlled environment, where you can simulate all the stinulations a regular brain gets from vision, touch, smell, heat, sexual tension, and a gazzilion other things that build our environment and personality, and that kind of a simulation would cost too much to develop and maintain. possibly, those grid-dwelling entities would be able to program and think fast enough to completely rebuild the environments they want to "feel" they are in.
OTOH, if you are a computer-dwelling entity, why would you want to simulate body input? you can do away with pain, disease, social inhibitions stemming from sexual tensions and fears, all those bits are not needed, and are indeed impeding the new digital life you have gained. I have no doubt this kind of a "life" would have many other more interesting things to offer, creating copies of yourself to argue with, or mind-merging with other "entities" for better communication. who says such entities would even WANT to stay individual and separate? why would they care about ownership and money? you eliminate libido, greed and other unnecessary bits of our bio-bodies and your world will be open for completely new and different experiences...

You seem to have missed 'edited' in your list of what can be done to a mindfile. Who would be allowed to do that? Yourself? A professional 'mind remodeler'? Hobbyists?
